Abstract
GROUP DISCUSSION IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO CONTRIBUTE THEIR OWN THOUGHTS IN SOLVING PROBLEMS TOGETHER IN LEARNING. STUDENTS HAVE DIFFERENT ATTITUDES IN CONDUCTING GROUP DISCUSSIONS IN CLASS. FOR EXAMPLE, SOME STUDENTS LACK MOTIVATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS IN GROUPS. THIS STUDY AIMS TO DETERMINE THE FIRST RESEARCH QUESTION IS WHAT ARE THE STUDENTS' ATTITUDES TOWARDS GROUP DISCUSSIONS IN LEARNING ENGLISH? AND THE SECOND RESEARCH QUESTION IS WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES IN ATTITUDES TOWARDS GROUP DISCUSSION ACTIVITIES BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE STUDENTS? THIS STUDY USED 27 QUESTIONNAIRES TO COLLECT DATA. THERE WERE 108 ELED STUDENTS FROM THE 2019 BATCH WHO WERE SELECTED AS RESPONDENTS. THIS STUDY ALSO CONCLUDED THAT THE FIRST RESEARCH QUESTION OBTAINED FROM DATA PROCESSING IN SPSS GOT A SCORE OF 2.8 WHICH MEANS IT IS IN THE GOOD CATEGORY. IN THE SENSE OF A GOOD ATTITUDE STUDENTS HAVE MOTIVATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS. THEN THE RESULTS OF THE SECOND RESEARCH QUESTION. BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THE FEMALE T-TEST ON SPSS, IT IS KNOWN THAT THE SIGNIFICANCE VALUE FOR FEMALE IS 0.056 AND MALE IS 0.050. BASED ON THE T-TEST, IF THE SIGNIFICANCE LEVEL IS GREATER THAN 0.05 (> 0.05), THEN THE SIGNIFICANCE VALUE FOR WOMEN AND MEN IS CONSIDERED NORMAL. THE RESULTS OF THE ATTITUDE DATA OF FEMALE AND MALE STUDENTS CAN BE STATED THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENCES IN ATTITUDES TOWARDS GROUP DISCUSSION ACTIVITIES BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE STUDENTS. BASED ON SECOND RESEARCH QUESTION, THUS THE HYPOTHESIS SUBMITTED IS DECLARED REJECTED.
