Abstract
This study aims to determine whether word-composing games are effectively applied in the Japanese language learning process in improving the understanding of Japanese sentence structures for second-level students of Japanese Language Education, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. This study uses a quantitative approach to the type of experimental research. The sample consisted of 7 students from level II Japanese Language Education students at Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta in the 2021/2022 academic year. The instruments used are tests and questionnaires. The test is to find out the extent of students' understanding of Japanese sentence structures. Questionnaire to find out student responses about word-composing games in improving understanding of Japanese sentence structures. Based on the research data, the average value of understanding sentence structures before being given special treatment (pre-test) was 31.4 and the average value after being given special treatment (post-test) was 51.4, which means that there was an increase in the average score. an average of 2. From the data of the two variables above, the value of the effectiveness of the word compiling game is 0.38, which means that it is in the less effective category. The conclusion is that the word compiling game is less effective in the learning proce.
