Abstract
Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera L.) are one of the plants proven to have antibacterial activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. The type of solvent and method used for extraction are thought to influence the results of secondary metabolites produced in phytochemical screening and their antibacterial activity. The aim of this research is to see the ability of infusion, ethanol extract, ethyl acetate extract, and n-hexane extract of Moringa leaves to inhibit the growth of disease-causing bacteria and to see the content of chemical compounds in Moringa leaf extract which have antibacterial activity. Samples were extracted using maceration and infundation methods. Screening of chemical compounds from the extract was carried out using an LCMS (Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) instrument. The antibacterial test method used was disc diffusion with the test subjects being Streptococcus pneumoniae and Escherichia coli bacteria. Each extract sample was made in two variations of concentration, 50 persen and 100 persen. The positive control used in the study was amoxicillin 25µg/mL and the negative control was DMSO. The results showed that the infusion, ethanol extract, ethyl acetate extract, and nhexane extract of Moringa leaves were not effective in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria compared to the positive control. However, it can inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 50 persen . The results of analysis using LCMS showed that there were similar compounds in the infusion, ethyl acetate extract, and n-hexane extract in the form of flavonoid compounds and goongan alkaloid compounds which were the compounds most frequently detected in the ethanol extract. The results of statistical tests using the OneWay ANOVA method showed that there was a significant difference in the average diameter of the inhibition zone between groups (p kurang dari 0.05).
