Abstract
In this study, the researcher discusses the audience reception of socio-economic responses to the film "Parasite". The researcher chose the film "Parasite" because he wanted to examine how the audience responded to the socio-economy in this film full of social criticism. This research is a qualitative research using the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) technique to obtain data from informants. The informants came from the Jogja Film Academy (JFA) and students from BEM FEB UMY. The results obtained by decoding from Stuart Hall resulted in the position of the informants which were divided into 3 scenes. In the first scene about social offering, the economy of audience acceptance tends to agree with the director's position in the Dominant position (Hegemonic Reading). The second scene concerns the “body odor” of all the informants in various positions and has acceptance. Whereas in the last scene, which is out of the poverty zone, the informants tend to disagree with the order of information in the position of the Opposition (Counter Hegemonic Reading).
