Abstract
Background: The prevalence of electric smokers in Indonesia is increasing, including the city of Yogyakarta with the highest prevalence of 26.9%, the majority of which are children aged over 15 years. Often these cigarettes are considered safer and can help stop conventional smoking. But in fact, if the habit of electric smoking is carried out for a long time and a lot of it has the potential to increase dependence due to the nicotine content in e-cigarettes. Purpose: This study aims to explore the overview of e-smoking behavior and e-cigarette dependence behaviors in adolescents. Methods: This study used a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach with 12 participants who were determined using the snowball sampling technique. Data analysis in this study used OpenCode 4.02 software. Results: The results of this study obtained two themes, namely (1) The type of electric smoking behavior in adolescents, which consists of four sub-themes, namely aspects of time, aspects of place, aspects of function, and aspects of intensity. (2) Nicotine dependence behavior, which consists of three sub-themes, namely causing physiological and psychological impacts, and the duration of the symptoms. Conclusion: This study has two themes consisting of four sub-themes in the type of e-smoking behavior in adolescents and three sub-themes in nicotine-dependence behavior. Suggestions for further researchers are expected to dig deeper in relation to phenomena that have not been explored and can find research update
