Abstract

Students‟ behavior depends on their motivation in the learning process. Students who are motivated are more enthusiastic in the classroom rather than who are not motivated. The focus of this research is to find out students‟ motivation in joining English club and the advantages in joining English club for speaking skill. This research was conducted at English Language Education Department of a private university in Yogyakarta. This research employed qualitative method and used descriptive qualitative research as research design to present the research finding. The participants of this research were three students of English Language Education Department at one of private university in Yogyakarta. Besides, the researcher used interview to collect the data. There are motives that influence students‟ motivation in English learning process which involve get a better future career, gives them self-enjoyment, get a chance to study abroad and to join in debating competition. Additionally, there are also four advantages in joining English club for students‟ improvement in speaking skills which involve vocabulary improvement, pronunciation improvement, fluency improvement, and grammar improvement.
