Abstract
Background: Musculoskeletal complaints are complaints of muscle and bone, one
of the factors causing these complaints is usually due to the work position that is
not ergonomic. This can be caused by the work done using the wrong position,
carried out continuously will cause discomfort. These complaints are referred to
as Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs).
Objective: This study aims to determine how is relationship between work
position and musculoskeletal complaints due to work on cleaning officers at
Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University.
Research Methods: This type of research is quantitative with cross sectional
approach. The sample in this study taken by total sampling technique amounted to
115 cleaning officer workers. The Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire
instrument was used to measure musculoskeletal complaints, and also the Manual
Handling Activity Activity was used to measure work positions. Analysis uses the
Spearmen Rho’s statistical test.
Results: The majority sex category is male (87.8%). Most age categories are
found in 26-35 years (37.4%). The tenure category works the most during 1-2
years (28.7%). Whereas most BMI categories were found to be overweight
(43.5%). The category of disease history was the least history of hypertension
(13.9%). Musculosketal complaints category due to work most experienced
moderate pain (67.8%). The majority of work position categories perform
ergonomic work positions (55.7%). There is a relationship between work position
and musculoskeletal complaints due to work (p value = 0,000) (r = 0.482).
Conclusion:. There is a relationship between work position and musculoskeletal
complaints due to work at cleaning officer of Muhammadiyah University of
Yogyakarta. Therefore, it is expected that janitors can implement an ergonomic
work position.
