BIMBINGAN KONSELING PADA LANSIA YANG MENGALAMI DEMENSIA (STUDI KASUS RUMAH PELAYAN SOSIAL LANJUT USIA TERLANTAR BUDHI DHARMA YOGYAKARTA)

This research is entitled "Counseling Guidance for Elders with Dementia (A Case Study on Abandoned Elders Social Service House Budhi Dharma Yogyakarta)". This study aims at (1) explaining how the counselling guidance method is carried out at Social Service House Budhi Dharma Yogyakarta in assisting the elders with dementia, (2) explaining what are the obstacles and the supporting factors experienced by the companion in assisting the elders with dementia at the Social Service House Budhi Dharma Yogyakarta. In this study, a qualitative method was used by implementing interview, observation and documentation techniques. The research at Social Service House Budhi Dharma Yogyakarta shows that there are two methods in dealing with the elders with dementia; those are the individual method using a reality approach and the group method including religious/mental spiritual development and gymnastics activities. Supporting factors in this service come from the meeting intensity between social workers and nurses in dealing with the elders, the elders’ enthusiasm in the social service house, and the positive response from the surrounding community. The obstacles in this service include the physical health of the elders and the insignificant ratio between the number of social workers and the number of the elders.
