Abstract

This paper is aimed to explain the interests that
South Korea has towards Indonesia by providing
assistance and choosing Indonesia as one of the priority
countries for sending COVID-19 test kits during the 2020
pandemic. The successful story of South Korea
maintaining the COVID-19 cases after its first outbreak
made a lot of attention from other countries, some wanted
to cooperate on buying the test kits, some hoped that
South Korea would be willing to help and give
assistance. By using the theoretical framework of
Foreign Aid specifically in terms of humanitarian aid and
National Interests, this study finds that South Korea has
economic interests to be achieved by using humanitarian
aid. This can be observed from the very bad condition of
COVID-19 in Indonesia so that it requires assistance or
cooperation from other countries. On the other hand,
Indonesia is a very strategic location and a large
population which makes the country become a very good
market place for the international community
