Abstract
This study describes the meaning related to the issue of racism obtained by
active audiences in the film "Blackklansman. The research uses an interpretive
paradigm with qualitative research types, and in analyzing the data there is a
reception analysis of the Stuart Hall encoding-decoding model. Researchers
collected data using in-depth interviews with informants who met the criteria for
students in Yogyakarta. The results of this study show that audience acceptance in
the film Blackkklansman includes acts of racism which is described that the five
informants produce different meanings from the categories of the three scenes
studied, namely verbal racism scenes, all informants occupy a dominant
hegemony position, because they tend to agree with the meaning the director
wants to convey, Furthermore, there are three informants who occupy the
dominant hegemony and two negotiations. While the third in the last scene of
institutional racism, the positions of the informants are diverse and have different
acceptances.
