Abstract

Jitsuyo Kaiwa is one of the compulsory subjects that must be studied when
studying Japanese at the Japanese Language Study Program, University of
Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Kaiwa classes study speaking or communication
using Japanese and are taught by native Japanese teachers. However, when in
kaiwa class by native teachers there are often leaaring difficulties. This study uses
a qualitative descriptive method with a research sample of 27 third-level students
in the 2022/2021 academic year who have attended a jitsuyo kaiwa class taught by
a native. The data collection technique used in this study was a closed
questionnaire with a Likert scale and interviews. The results of the analysis of the
data obtained, it can be seen that respondents have learning difficulties (learning
disorders, learning disabilities, learning dysfunctions, under achievers and slowly
learners) and internal factors that affect learning difficulties are learning readiness
and competence, while external factors are teaching methods and competencies.
teacher. Even though they find it difficult to learn, on the other hand, respondents
think that the kaiwa class by native lecturers is interesting and not boring.
