Abstract

Classroom management ability is important skills that teachers need to possess in order to be able to handle their classroom. The aims of this study are to examine the classroom management ability of English education students, UMY (Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta) when they conduct teaching practicum and investigate the improvement of their classroom management abilities after conducting teaching practicum. The method used in this study was a qualitative method. The researcher examined five students from EED batch 2010. They were interviewed one by one. Each student interview was recorded. Most students reported that teaching practicum program is good to improve their classroom management ability in teaching. The improvement is related to their ability in handling classroom after teaching practicum activities. This increase is demonstrated by time management and more able to handle a class with students who have different characters, and they also know how to adjust the seat.
